American F 15 Eagle |
Richard Herman prefers to go by his nickname “Dick” and is a retired Air Force officer who flew C-130s and F-4s. While on active duty, he served two tours in Southeast Asia during the “unpleasantness” there and logged over 240 combat missions. After retiring, he turned to writing about the aircraft he loves.
The following points he wrote in his Fighter Novels which are a fighter pilot`s plan to survival. I have compiled all rules to bring you this all in the language of pilots although a few rules apply to basic life as well.
It would be loved by people interested in military hardware....cant say about others :)
It is important to remember that there is no priority to the importance of these rules. Whichever one is applicable immediately becomes number one.
1. Check six.
2. Always remember your jet was made by the lowest bidder.
3. Train like you plan to fight.
4. When in doubt, use industrial strength deterrence.
5. Never fly in the same cockpit with someone who is braver than you.
6. Priorities are man-made, not God-made.
7. A plan never survives the first thirty seconds of combat.
8. If it's stupid but works, it ain't stupid.
9. Only turn to blow the opposition away; otherwise, run away and fight another guy.

10. Always honor a threat.
11. Know the opposition.
12. Know when it's time to get out of Dodge.
13. Always know how to get out of Dodge.
14. The important things are always simple.
15. The simple things are always hard.
16. When things go wrong, get aggressive.
17. The guy who shot you down is the guy you never saw.
18. Speed is life.
19. The ground has a kill probability of 1.0.
20. Lose sight, lose the fight.

21. In a knife fight (one versus one), one of you isn't coming home.
22. It ain't over until you've filled out the paperwork.
23. Use the sun.
24. When all else fails, select guns.
25. Tell me the threat and I'll tell you my tactics.
28. Never forget Rule Number One.
Think like a fighter pilot and you`ll understand these rules of engagement....
